Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was the daughter of British parents Jacqueline Luesby (a lawyer) and Chris Watson (a French mother). The couple moved to Oxfordshire when she was five and attended the Dragon School. Emma realized when she was six that she wanted to be an actress. Over the course of several years, she studied at the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch in which she was taught dancing, singing, acting and many other things. She was a stagecoach performer and performed as the lead role in several Stagecoach productions. In 1999, casting started for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001), the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Casting agents found Emma through her Oxford theatre instructor. After eight auditions David Heyman revealed to Emma and Rupert Grint (other applicants) that they had been given the roles of Hermione Gringer, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. The film broke records in opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. The film's performances as well as those of its young stars received praise from reviewers. The widely distributed British newspaper The Daily Telegraph described her performance as "admirable". Emma received five awards for her performance in the movie, including the Young Artist Award, for Leading Young Actress In a Feature Film. After the release of the first film in the hugely successful Harry Potter franchise, Emma became one of the most famous actresses in the world. Hermione Granger was her role for almost ten years in the Harry Potter films. Emma was awarded two Critics' Choice Awards nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association for her role in Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban and Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.
