Meg Ryan

Blue-eyed, blonde-haired with an effervescent personality, Meg Ryan was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield, Connecticut, to Susan (Duggan), an English teacher and actress as well as Harry Hyra, a math teacher. Her ancestry includes Ruthenian, Polish and Irish, as well as German. ("Hyra") is her Ruthenian surname, and "Ryan", is her maternal grandmother's maiden name. Meg graduated from Bethel High School, Bethel in May 1979. Meg relocated to New York City and studied journalism at New York University. Meg Ryan was her new name and she began acting to earn money as she finished her education. In 1981, she made her big screen debut . She made a brief appearance as Candice Bergen's daughter in George Cukor's final film Rich and Famous (1981). She was auditioned for and made Betsy in the day time television soap As the World Turns (1956). From 1982 until 1984, she was a part of the ensemble. Meg was also a participant in the television show One of the Boys (1982) and was ended. In 1984, Meg emigrated to Hollywood, and was offered a job with the western television series Wildside (1985). Meg's role in the blockbuster film Top Gun (1986) led to her being part of Steven Spielberg's Innerspace (1987) where she co-starred with Dennis Quaid. For the remake of D.O.A., she starred again with Quaid. (1988), and got wed on Saint Valentine's Day 1991. Meg appeared in 1989's When Harry Met Sally... (1989), and the scene at the restaurant became famous. Meg was nominated both for the Golden Globe as well as the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. Also, she was part of the highly successful Sleepless in Seattle (1993) which was nominated for the Golden Globe. Meg was able to break away from the grain in 1994 in the film of Meg's drunken wife and mother "When a Man Loves a Woman" (1994). Then, she returned to her "cute" I.Q. (1994) as well as French Kiss (1995). People Magazine named Meg "Woman Of The Year" in 1994 with the Harvard Hasty Pudding Award.
